Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease that develops because of excessive wear and tear to the cartilage between joints, or osteoarthritis is a degenerative disorder arising from biochemical breakdown of articular(hyaline) cartilage in the synovial joints etc knee joints.

Osteoarthritis can damage any joint in your body , the disorder most commonly affect joints in your hand, neck, lower back, knees and hips.

Current view holds that osteoarthritis involves not only the articular cartilage but the entire joint organ including subchondral bone and synovium.

Did you know that the risk of developing osteoarthritis (simply called arthritis) raises with a severe sprain and fracture of the ankle.

Carrying more body weight puts  added stress  on your weight bearing joints, such as your knee. Hence obesity is a risk factor of osteoarthritis.

Injuries such as those that occur when playing sports or from an accident, may increase the risk of osteoarthritis.

Bone scanning may be helpful in the early diagnosis of osteoarthritis of the hand.

Bone scans can help differentiate osteoarthritis from osteomyelitis and bone metastases(cancer that has spread to the bones).

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues.

It is believed that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensation by affecting the way your brain processes pain signal.

The pain associated with fibromyalgia often is described as a constant dull ache that has lasted for at least three months.

People with fibromyalgia often wake up feeling tired even though they report sleeping for long period of time.

v Deficiency diseases such as anemia and osteoporosis result from the inadequate intake of essential specific nutrients (i.e. under nutrition).

v A good way to measure obesity is the body mass index(BMI) a Person’s weight in Kg divided by the square of his/her height in meters.

v Walking barefoot or in flimsy shoes without sufficient arch support can overstretch, tear or inflame the plantar fascia resulting in plantar fasciitis.
